A couple of weeks ago I read an article about Kim Kardashian revealing her most recent weight-loss and how she “works out hard so she doesn’t ruin it”. You can read the article here.
I struggle with my body self-esteem.
Reading this articles cut at those emotions a bit, but then I realized that I had to look at Kim’s weight-loss efforts with a different perspective than before.

1. Numbers on the scale aren’t everything
“I was almost 140 forever and now I’m, like, 116 and it just feels good,” said Kim in the interview.
In my opinion, Kim did not need to reveal her weight to us.
Numbers on a scale do not always matter (I say this though I keep a weight scale next to my bathroom sink and weight myself once a week). Your body can lose fat mass, but then gain muscle mass which results in the numbers on the scale failing to change even though your body composition altered. I experience this all the time and it frustrates me. My body fluctuates in a weekly basis, even thought I work out and try my best to eat healthy.
It is very impressive that Kim had an 20lb weigh loss, but a reminder to you is that she lost that weight in one year period. That is a realistic and attainable goal. I think Kim looked great before and she looks just as great now (especially as her body changes with age).
2. Kim said it right – you have to be consistent
“I didn’t see results right away, but if you really stick with something and you’re consistent, you will.” Kim is right. That consistency is key.
Just like anything, you need to be consistent, stick to the plan and you will achieve results.
3. Kim has access to trainers/equipment/meal plans/cooks
“I’ve been working out really hardcore with a bodybuilder for one year.”
I could probably lose 20 lbs like Kim if I had access to a body builder who designs specific training and meal plans for me This costs a ton of money, money I don’t have, but money the Kardashians have. They can afford top training every day, buying the best food plans, and even having someone in house cook for them.
I think this is a big component that many people forget. Wolverine doesn’t look like wolverine without his trainers, Thor isn’t Thor without his trainers. Heck, when The Rock shoots a movie he brings his own personal gym! People decicate their lives to looking a certain way because at the end of the day they get a multi-million dollar pay check for it. Wouldn’t you do the same?
4. Her image is how she makes money
Instagram is everything for the Kardashians. That’s how we keep up with them. They have to continue to look good and create an image of perfection, sexiness, and desire. People love to hate them, but at the end of the day Kim is just a very smart business woman who knows how to work her assets (no pun intended 🍑).
5. Maybe Kim feels pressured
Ever think that sometimes these celebrities feel the pressure to look “perfect” all the time? Imagine posting an Instagram photo and having thousands of strangers post “you look like you’ve gained weight” to it. That does not do anything positive to the self esteem. Kim might feel like she has to keep her body a certain way because of her fanbase, her reputation, and her image. You never know.

Just remember that everyone has a different body journey and story. Don’t let images on social media get you down. Remember that every body is different, and every body is great.

ps. I admire Kim for her passion, drive, and the empire she has built up. No hate for her ever. I am a Kardashian fan, I watch their show, and buy their products. 💜
