These songs are anthems for my life.
Here are five fierce songs by five fierce queens who embrace their power, strength, and self-love attitude. I listen to these songs when I need that extra boost to kick life in the butt and remind myself how incredible I am!
1.Since U Been Gone – Kelly Clarkson
“SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE! I CAN BREATHE FOR THE FIRST TIME!” A classic hairbrush song. This song is arguably one of the best songs to belt out loud with a no-care attitude and some pretty epic dance moves. Kelly Clarkson hit us with this huge banger back in 2004. It has been sung across the nation by many people who need to express that deep intensity and raw emotion, and to ultimately get over or move past a person, a situation or a mood.
2. No Scrubs – TLC
In 1999 I was only four years old when this song was released. Little ol’ me did not know the epitome of effect this song would have later during my dating years. I have met too many “scrubs” in my lifetime, and fortunately this song brings me back to the reality that “they can’t get no love from me,” and that I need to move on! Please ladies and gents, watch out for the scrubs in your life!
3. Love Myself – Hailee Seinfeld
An anthem for self empowerment. “I LOVE ME, I LOVE MYSELF AND I DON’T NEED ANYBODY ELSE.” I know this song has helped many friends though bullies, mean girls, heart break, and just being hard on oneself. Hailee Seinfeld hit us with the best self love anthem of 2016.
4. Formation – Beyonce
What is a song list without Queen Bey on it? You’re lucky this isn’t a vlog, or you’d see my entire Beyonce tour choreography for this song. I remember when this song came out and people had mix feelings, BUT it was a hit in the making! Beyonce’s first single off her 2016 album ‘Lemonade’ brought that fierce, sassy, glow-up vibe that we all need in our life. Okay ladies now let’s get in formation!
5. Just Fine – Mary J. Blige
I have been listening to this song for years, but it wasn’t until the last three years that I truly appreciated it fully. This song has so much truth, realness, and self expression laced throughout the lyrics. Mary J even shouts me out in the lyrics “gonna live my life, feels so good to get it right.” I truly think everyone needs to listen to this song and live the lyrics.

I hope one or all of these songs help you feel some self expression and glow up vibes of your own. Embrace your power, embrace your strength, and embrace yourself!

Save Myself – Ed Sheeran was something I had to work on in my late 20’s. Rhythm Nation – Janet Jackson has always been inspiring and a good jam to dance too 🙂 Dancing is such an important part of my life. Not anything formal, just feeling the rhythm in my bones and smiling along the way as I fail trying to imitate JJ or JT 🙂
